Open Water Diver

Student Learning Agreement

Our mutual responsibilities throughout your Open Water Diver course.

Welcome to your training program with Bucea Baja Norte. Dive training is fun, but like any other form of learning, you need to invest some time and effort in reading and studying. This learning agreement is between you, the student, and the Bucea Baja Norte instructor team, and covers our mutual responsibilities in this program.

Course Prerequisites

  • Know how to swim.
  • Be in good health.
  • Be older than 10 (children and teens aged 10 to 14 will receive a JUNIOR OPEN WATER CERTIFICATE, which allows them to dive under the supervision of a certified adult diver).

About the Course

  • Fill out and read the liability release and the medical statement in full. If you answer YES to any of the questions, a physician must evaluate you before any activity in the water.
  • Before each theory session, you must watch the Open Water Diver videos, then read and complete the knowledge review for the chapters covered in that session.
  • Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian during pool and ocean practice.

Class Make-Ups

Keep in mind that if you miss a class session, it can be VERY difficult to make it up in time to catch up with your course, or you may have to wait for the next course. If necessary, classes you cannot attend can be rescheduled as follows:

  • Changing groups costs $935 pesos, whether it is due to missing a theory or a practical class.
  • Extra theory sessions cost $660 pesos per module, $1100 pesos per pool session and $2420 pesos per ocean dive.
  • Theory and pool classes are valid for 6 months to complete the ocean dives.
  • The vast majority of people learn to dive in a group course like this one, but in some cases private practice is needed to finish successfully. If so, special classes can be scheduled at an extra cost of $1100 per session.

Certification Requirements

  • Pass the theory exam with a score of 80% or higher.
  • Complete all exercises to the instructor's satisfaction and make at least 4 ocean dives.
  • Complete a 200-meter swim without stopping (any stroke, no time limit) and float in the water for 10 minutes (without touching the bottom).

The Course Includes

  • Digital manual.
  • Dive certification card processing fee.
  • Dive equipment, if needed.
  • Tanks.
  • Instructor.

Additional Costs (Optional)

  • Boat trips (dives can also be done from the beach).
  • Extra classes.

Cancellation Policy

  • Cancellations made 7 days before the course starts receive a 100% refund.
  • If an eLearning code or the Open Water Diver manual has been provided, the cost of those materials will be deducted from the refund.
  • No refund applies if you decide to stop the course for any reason after it has started.
  • No refund will be given if you find that diving is not for you, or if the instructor recommends you return once your swimming skills have improved or your confidence in the water is greater.
